Re: cigarette light wires ?
Pics might help here Wazza1978  Have you tried the search function :?: My guess would be that the centre pin of the cig lighter would be positive and the outer part of it negative but I would not attempt this without confirming with a test light/multimeter. Difficult to comment without knowing exactly what it is.

that is the universal design for cigarette lighter in cars. if they change the order of the negative and positive wires, other devices which are used with cigarette lighter would be destroyed.

If in case it is TWO WIREs, it should follow the rule above.
If in case there is ONLY ONE WIRE connected to this cig lighter, it should be positive, and your cig lighter should be screwed or snap on a metal surface in your dashboard which already provides negative source all around the car, so it does not need another negative wire.
BTW, one photo will talk better.

Re: cigarette light wires ?
Its a good chance that the plug with two wires will be for the illumination light and the single wire (doesn't entirely make sense - should be 2) would be the actual cigarette socket. Another indication to which is which will be the guage of the wires - smaller wires will be illumination and larger will be power...
As for testing them with a multimeter? Connect one end of the meter to body earth and then touch the other to one of the wires. A 12Vdc reading indicates power/supply side and a 0Vdc reading indications body earth...2014 D4D 150 GXL Automatic - CHARCOAL
