  • 90 series Radio PIN

Had a flat battery on my 2001 90 series TX Diesel. It is fitted with the original radio. After jump starting the engine 'SEC' came up on the radio dial and the radio would not work.
I dug out the manual and went through the secret button pushing process. Each time I came up with ERR#. I did this four times untill I ended up with ERR4.
The manual says if this happens ten times the radio will freeze and I'll have to consult my Toyota dealer. I didn't go any further.

Has anyone been down this track and can give some advice on what I should do.

You will need to get in contact with Toyota, you will need to provied your VIn # and possably your engine # and rego papers, they will then provide you with the code, might cost money though.

One thing to remember if you are in need of changing the battery (even if the battery is flat or has colapsed there is still enough power for the stereo to stay active) you need to keep power to vehicle via jumper leads that are connected to a good battery and the other side on the battery connectors of your vehicle, when you slide the connectors back over the new battery, you can then remove the jumper leads, and then you have not security locked the stereo.

Duno how you'll go with Toyota Australia as the TX is an import isn't it. They may have issues with getting the pin etc

I know in the GXL you can turn the PIN requirement off so this doesn't happen when you disconnect the battery. Not sure if this is possible with the TX but once you get it sorted maybe you could consider this.

His one is not an import, look at the year model.
It wouldn't matter if it was anyway, Toyota will have all the details of every model and what went into them, this is why you need to supply them with the vin#.

It happened to me ages ago... it turned out to be something simple, like 1111. Don't quote me on that though and I wouldn't use your 9th go with my memory at the moment

I don't know if the 90 radio is like the 120 but the 120 pin is normally the last 3 digits of the vin #

Take it to Toyota. You don't need any VINs or details like that .They will bring out a yellow lunch box to reset your unit, this can be done once you have frozen the stereo (i.e. attempted to enter the PIN too many times). I made it easy for my dealer as I already had the dash apart and the stereo was out. It then became a freebie that way. If the dealer had to pull your dash apart to take the stereo out it will cost $$$.

They normally require Vin # so they know it is not a stolen unit, they dont want to get a stolen unit up and running again, this will also give them the serial number of the unit and the pin code for it.
I think you were lucky or because you brought the whole vehicle to them they did it anyway.

                  Re: 90 series Radio PIN

I have the feeling that the code is NOT set by default on these, but for the life of me I can't remember the code....have you tried 000? It is 3 digits according to my manual.

The owner has to set the code if he wants to.....if he has I'm not sure how you get around that ops:
The owner can also clear the pin so its not required....

I have seen SEC on my screen at some time in the past, just can't remember how I got round it....its been a while.

The other thing however is that yours has now locked up, the manual says that you do need to contact Toyota in this case.

Think of it as a trip to listen for all those squeaks & rattles & funny gearbox/engine drive line noises you can't normally hear

                    Re: 90 series Radio PIN

hi, as quicky said try the last 3 digits of your vin. Alot of dealers set this at pre delivery, especially on fleet vehicles. I was supplied in a box the factory in dash 6 stacker when i bought my tx. Decided to fit when the dvd unit crapped out. Of course sec came up when fitted so tried the last 3 digits of the vin and she fired up. Worth a try and toyota have a list of codes to unlock once you freeze it right up.

Thanks everyone. I tried the last three VIN digits to no avail......looks like a trip to the Tojo dealer

                        Re: 90 series Radio PIN

Took the car to the Toyota dealer. He had a quick look, also mentioned the last three numbers of the VIN, tried all that had been tried and said the radio would have to come out to be connected to a decoder.
It was Saturday morning, I was imagining they would want me to book it in during the week, which is almost impossible for us as we both work and the logistics of getting to the Toyo dealer in working hours is almost impossible. However he said he could do it there & then, cost $35, so go right ahead. He had it done in twenty minutes. All good.
He recommended we do not reset a PIN as no one wants those old radios (original 2001) anymore anyway. So now, if the battery is disconnected for some reason the radio should come on straight away without any PIN. All good. Thanks to all for the advice.

Hi Fellas. Just did a bit of work on the Prado and did the disconnect thing. Yeah, SEC on the radio. "get me a kid". After reading the radio manual (yeah I know - what a loser) I found some bright past owner had written "use the last 3 digits of the chassis no" to reset the radio. All good. And yeah - no one in their right mind would nick one of the original radios anyway. Cheers, Derb.
