snorkels on a diesel 90

hey guys, im in the market for a snorkel for my diesel tx ltd. i dont like the look of the snorkels that fit behind the front left tire so was wondering if anyone has fitted a snorkel that runs along side the bonnet on the diesel. photos of the unit and install would be great. im either going airtec or safari as they appear the best. any help would be great cheers Ben

I fitted the safari snorkel myself. I'd read the various blurbs about gaining cleaner air and more hp and took it all with a grain of salt. The safari came with a template, so cutting the holes in the right place was easy and all fitted well. only trouble with fitting was getting my big hands up into the narrow space back inside the mudguard to get the studs & nuts in.

After seeing where the stock air intake is inside the inner guard and how dirty it is in there I'm happy to have the air intake up out of there for that reason alone. I may have been dreaming but the vehicle seemed to pull better up out of Mooney Mooney Bridge, so if it gained a touch more hp from clean fresh cool air being rammed down the snorkel, well, there just might be something there.

Only thing I wonder, and this would be common to most snorkels, is where does the water go when your driving through heavy rain. There was no drain hole in the bottom of the snorkel tubing. The thing would fill with water till it went in through the air cleaner. Anyone got any ideas on this. I'm contemplating buying the centrifuge type precleaner for the inlet, instead of the ram scoop......

In heavy rain, the water that enters the snorkel head, will actually go to the back of the snorkel head and exit at the point where you tighten it on with the clamp, you should see a small cutout at the back of the head.

Chriso, if it makes you feel better, yours is the only one that i actually do like.
I'm not a fan of the look of a huge chunk of plastic taking up the whole guard :-)
