I was talking to my local exhaust place about a system for my prado and they said if you dont want a full system as you are looking at approx $1400 fitted you can simply chop the standard muffler out and fit a 2.5inch free flow inplace for $170 fitted and will make a big difference, redback systems dont provide a new dump pipe as they say the standard 90 series is fine to use, so im going to try this mod and see if it makes any difference.

Get rid of the Toyota Dump pipe. It is restrictive.
I have a 2.5 inch Dump pipe into a 3 inch exhaust all the way through with only 1 small Straight Through Muffler....
Happy with the extra pull up long hills.
Sounds great too.
Regards, Jason.

Why did you go 2.5 on the dump and 3 for the rest?
why not 3 all the way?
Cheers

Hi Malcom.
Space restrictions limit size of the dump pipe especially beside the Bellhousing for the Trans.
Mine is about a cigarette paper away from a mounting bolt.
Once you pull the original dump pipe off & see the internal size difference between that & the new one, you will be amazed.
The original one is quite restrictive.
I'm still not completely happy with the overall design of the one i have either.
Ideally you want to run a divider plate between your Turbo impeller & the wastegate. Then a separate pipe for the wastegate that plumbs back in 30cm or more down stream, as the turbulence caused by the wastegate when it opens is a big interference to the impeller.
This is the style of Dump pipe that everyone makes for our Prado's with a straight open dump off the back of the Turbo.
Ideally this type of setup would be far more ideal & they are much more efficient, but there just isn't the volume market there for someone to do the R&D on these to make them.
Regards, Jason.

confused
hi all i have spent days and hours of reading, talking, getting quotes..i have a turbo 95 series now i have been told that i cant fit a
3'' exhaust system to the car i will kill it..
2.5''-2.3/4'' exhaust system seems to be the most popular for my car and even then i got told i have to but in a k&n filter to help with the bigger exhaust system..
no place i have talked to has said any thing about the dump pipe or changing it...i see a few of you have the 3'' system have u had any problems ? and are u running a chip as well? some it up i want to run a chip n exhaust system to get better power, fuel and what not for black top driving around town/highway and towing around town/highway also for off road driving n the chance of towing off road...i have picked up a snorkel n k&n filter but not fitted yet.. i'm confused on what i exhaust system and brand i should get...

So sorry Skitzy, only just saw your post.
I have a 2.5" Dump with a 3" exhaust. Have had for a while now and have had no probs at all.
The dump is highly recommended when you do the exhaust, as it is restrictive.
A 2.75" system would be fine also.
Mine is not chipped yet, but hopefully will be soon, but just the gains from the exhaust when towing have been noticeable.
I'm verry happy with it.
Regards, Jason.

The dump pipe is a bitch to replace so maybe they are ducking the issue and there is heaps of 3" systems installed on 90's.
If you are going off road then use the genuine Toyota air filter. Expensive but nothing better and no mucking about cleaning it every few 100Kms when you clog it up with dust.Malcom
