I'm lucky I guess...maybe....most of the kays done on mine are at highway speeds as we are 30km from town. I suspect that you will get less wear & tear per km that way.....anyway thats my theory....
I did a bit of hunting around until I found a place I was happy with. Turns out that it is a relatively simple job (for those capable of using a spanner!)
$84 Belt
$120 Tensioner
$66 Labour
$270 Total
A bit better than the $800 odd dollars I found quoted elsewhere!
That's interesting, I'm sure the sticker on the timing cover of my Jap import Prado Diesel said the timing belt was due for replaced at 100,000km?? It was changed a little over this at 105,000km so the sticker has now been replaced so I can't confirm it.
I wonder why there's a difference? Maybe idling around the streets of Tokyo is seen as being a bit harder on the timing belt than cruising on the open road in Aussie.
Early Diesel Prados with the same engine had the timing belt set at 100,000km.....The later ones at 150,000kms. I'm not sure when the cutover was but mine is a 2001 yr model.
