Oops, two poster with issues and got my wires crossed.

Looks to me like a priming issue, a bit more severe than my problem. I dont know fuel pumps well enough to know how they prevent draining back to the tank, but (at a guess) its the pump not sealing the line off properly or there is a leak.

Others with more knowledge will most likely have a better idea - I'm at my limit of knowledge now

      No worries

So priming should be automatically done by fuel pump right?
How many pumps of the accelerator should I be doing to test it?

I saw your first video, and it sounded to me like your starter was getting stuck there.. Second video it has a "normal start" but it could be quicker.

Il try to make a video also of my crancks

A small amount of vacuum when you remove the fuel cap is normal, if its a lot then check the tank breather underneath.

The primer is on top of the fuel filter, pump it until it goes hard and try starting immediately.

You can undo the lines to the injectors one at a time and see if there is fuel there as soon as you crank the engine.

A partial pump overhaul (seals and check valves) is easy enough, it's only if you get deep into the pump that you need specialist tools and knowledge to calibrate the timing.

also i heard the pump has 3 internal filters that can get some dirty , and you can take them out and give them a good clean with detergent water and compressed air , i plan on checking the filters also

Not sure on 3 filters, I'd have to have a look at the drawing. I thought there was only the one strainer/filter in the top cover where the fuel line from the filter enters.

Ok, so i pushed the pump onto of the fuel filter until i saw little bits of fuel coming out from around the top of the filter (is that right?)

The car still struggled to start (I had someone ready to start immediately)

                ...What should i try next?

you can see it leaking here

No, that shouldn't be leaking fuel. 3-4 pumps and it should go hard and stay like that until you start it.

                    Thanks Mick

Could this be part of the issue, or is it just another thing?
What is the fix? a new fuel filter?

Yep, could be your issue for sure, air gets in and the fuel drains back. Did the primer go hard to push and stay that way until you started?

Not sure if there's a kit to put through those. But the complete primer pump is available aftermarket at reasonable prices. Probably a lot more at a Toyota dealer.

Probably - if the seal has perished then the filter is probably quite old and it wont hurt to change it. (have note watched the video)

As Mick said it should not be leaking and this could be your problem - if fuel can get out then air can get in and you will lose your prime.

$30-$50 AUD for a complete unit on ebay.

                            Thanks
Just had a go at priming it again
it goes hard, then starting is a couple of rotations

If I prime it and leave it for a few mins... the first pump is soft, but also leaks fuel
The 2nd and 3rd pump will not leak fuel, and are both hard

Should it remain hard after priming (for a couple of mins at least)

Yes; should stay hard until started.

So by pumping it hard then starting straight away the engine starts easier?

Yes, a thousand times better right now, but its had a few short trips this morning

first thing this morning it was quicker starting than normal, but still took about 6-7 rotations
I'll try when cold again for a more conclusive test...perhaps i didn't pump it properly first thing
