  • Engine Management Light on - Help 500Km's from home

    Hi

The engine light had been coming on for a min or 2 recently when cold, but then it went off
It was fine on the way here.... but now we're on holiday and 500Km drive back home through the bush, and the engine light is staying on constantly
i'm near a city for the next 3 days, so I can try and get parts if I need to

However, first I need to find out whats wrong
The symptoms are the car is a little bit down on turbo power with the light on

I'd appreciate a fast response on how i can JUMP the pins to figure out engine code
Here is a picture of the diagnostic port in engine bay

    its a 3.0L T Diesel 1997 Prado TZ with 212,000km on clock

G'day. I've had a look in my PETROL workshop manual and taken a couple of snaps of the procedure for checking fault codes. If the diesel shares the same diagnostics plug you should be able to bridge the same terminals. You may have to google the relevant fault code or wait for someone with a diesel workshop manual to reply. If its still driving alright you should be able to go slow. Maybe just a boost pressure fault?

    Good luck!
    Cheers Ben.

      Awesome thanks man

Any idea if I have an earlier or later model
I have checked and I could do both methods and don't want to blow anything up

I would say a 97 is an early model. The pin numbering should be printed under the lid of the diagnostics plug.

        Cheers, Ben.

              Found this http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...1KZ-TE-amp-D4D

It says 35 is boost pressure sensor.
Does that mean I just get a new sensor?

Or could it mean a few things?

I guess it could be a dirty or faulty sensor. Otherwise you may have a faulty turbo or intake/intercooler leak. I dare say you would be ok to continue on your way. You could try looking for the boost pressure sensor and remove and clean it if you have access to the required tools and some maf sensor cleaner. Also check all intake hoses and clamps.

                Cheers, Ben.

                  Great thanks ben
Turns out was the boost controller clip
Wasn't pushed in all the way and had worked it's way loose
Pushed it back on fully and voila!
Boosting again and no more engine light

                  Thanks for all the help
