Start with the easy one, is your air filter clean?

How many kilometers has it done? Have the injectors ever even changed?

    Cheers Andrew

      Hi Andrew,
Actually i bought this prado few days back...it is 85000 km driven on odo not sure meter is tempered or not and i don't think that previous owner ever changed injectors...if i change the injectors and atomizer will that help to stop smoke and increase fuel efficiency ?

I see your location is Pakistan? What is the fuel quality like over there? 85k km on poor quality diesel could mean you need to recon the injectors. With my 1KZ-TE I found that if I drive with too much of a light foot it tends to block up a little bit over a few weeks. Giving it a heavy boot a few times usually sorts it out. As a partial temp fix, try to accelerate really hard right through the rev range a couple of times. You will most likely see even more black smoke when you do this, but if there is a small/partial blockage or build up in the injectors, doing this could dislodge it. When I recon'd mine recently, 2 of them had partial blockages that cleared when I forced a bit more pressure through them.

After you have cleaned the air filter, you probably also want to change the fuel filter.

I don't know about Pakistan but I would be suspicious of any Australia vehicle that old with so few Kilometres showing on the clock, if you don't know the history for sure then that's a bit hard.

Poor fuel economy and black smoke are usually an indication of poor fuel burn, either your not getting enough air or the wrong quantity of fuel or poor atomisation. So as you have just purchased it I would suggest changing the filters, Air and Fuel if you don't know when that was last done. Check the intake system for blockages or build up and clean out if necessary.

If none of that helps then trying an injector cleaner may help, or as Fridayman driving a diesel hard once in a while can help to clean things out sometimes.

After that you are probably looking at injectors, and or pump. Whether replacing injectors will fix the issue is impossible to say, but that's the order I would tackle things starting with the cheapest and working your way up.

          Cheers Andrew

Check the egr and block the gases which are coming from exhaust. that may help little bit too.

I read it some where on internet.

            Regards
