Hoping someone can help me out here, I have been trying to solve an intermittant issue for over 6 months. 2002 Diesel 1kz engine, fly by wire, updated model with stability control and cruise control. NO EGR.
When Stopping (It never happens while moving) error code 19 or (P1123) pops up and the engine enters fail-safe/limp mode. I restart the engine and all is ok.
It is intermittant, I have bought myself a scanner and it always puts out the same code. I took it to the toyota agents for a full code diagnostic and they told me without any shadow of doubt that it is the acceleration position sensor, the quoted me over $1000 to change it as it only comes as a whole accelerator and they don't sell the actual sensor seperately. I have taken a good sensor out of another perfectly working prado and it is still doing the same thing. I would have wasted the $1000 at toyota. Googled fault code and it comes up as accelerator position sensor out of range? Vehicle has absolutely no other issues, fuel performance is good, starts and runs perfectly. Any Ideas???
I have attached a picture of the dash lights when it happens. Click image for larger version

    Hi Luck

My 2000 Prado has a similar issue but goes into limp mode when changing gear and the check engine light come's on.
I had it look at they said it was the throttle position sensor, which there are 2 off one on the pedal inside and on the
engine, they couldn't tell me which one it was and because it is so intermittent i haven't fix it.

    Good luck

Exactly what they told me but pinpointed the accelerator end???? I changed that and made no difference. I wondered about changing the throttle position sensor but it appears that the TPS and throttle drive are the same unit on mine so probably big $$$$$ Any updates on yours would be great if you find the fix
