  • Injector service?

    Hi Guys

My 1KZ-TE has 185k on the clock and is starting to get slightly smokey. I have also noticed the occasional rough idle ( not bad, just slightly rough). Can anyone tell me when the injectors are supposed to be replaced on these?. Also an idea of cost would be handy.

    Thanks

    G,day Mark,

I was going to pull mine out at 150,000kms and check them. I think it all depends on the engines history and what you feel is out of the ordinary. I have the advantage of being able to check mine for free . I let you know in 10,000kms.

The injector topic is an interesting one..
The diesel is a wonderful fuel, but 'gums' up the injectors.
Injectors are metal components that diesel does not corrode or permanently degrade. By all rights... they don't need replacing at all, just maintenance.

Smokey discharge is generally caused by 'over-fueling', in your case, most likely by 'gummed up' injectors spitting fuel, not spraying it.

Solutions - I have heard two schools of thought this issue :
        a. one (1) cap full of brake fluid into the tank. The suphur content clears the injectors.
        b. Diesel injector cleaner. The suphur content & other things, clear the injectors.

I use option b. cause I'm too scared to try option a.
Injector cleaner does wonders in cleaning it all up and getting the economy and smoothness back. 100 ml's in the tanks should do. In your case, maybe do 150ml's in both tanks, two fills in a row.

        Hope this helps.
        Cheers,
        Paul.

          Hi

Had my injectors serviced at 226000 k's.
Cost me $100 each injector including new nozzles.

Keep in mind these vehicles have the tendency to have the fuel pump pack it in too after a while - been there done that.

Might be good idea to get a diesel specialist to diagnose problem.
          Good luck.

I've run some injector cleaner through it and I must say it seems to idle smoother and no sign of smoke now. I'll run some more through the next fill and re-assess.

            Cheers
