Hi there Down Under
In the quest for gains in performance and better fuel consumption, I decided to blank off the EGR valve and see if the claims are true.
So, I unbolt the EGR valve and the connection pipe flange to the exhaust manifold. NOT so easy as it sounds, because it is wedge in between the back of the engine and the bulk head. I didn’t remove it completely, just pushed the EGR valve from its studs and remove the gasket.

I’ve cut a blanking plate out of 1.6mm stainless steel (suppose you can use Ali plate as well seeing that the whole intake manifold is cast Ali) using the gasket as a template.

I smear some gasket sealant on the blanking plate before I re-assembled the EGR valve. All went back in a lot easier than it came out.
Performance wise: I can now pull a way in 2nd gear a lot smoother. Acceleration at low speed (between 30-40mph) in 4th or 5th gear is smoother as well now.
I have to up-date you later on the fuel consumption side of things
