  • kz1 recall !!!

    Hi to all,
I have a 2000,90 series prado with a Kz1 engine that is shot, I had my mechanic measure the compression and he told me it is half of what it should be !
I have been told that these engines came with a factory defect with the cylinder walls to weak and that the motors only lasts about 100,000 Km. mine has 105,000 on it.
I was wondering if this has been confirmed as being true, I have never seen any articles written about this problem. Any comments about this would be appreciated !
    Thx,,,,,,

    Re: kz1 recall !!!

    I havn't heard anything about a recall.

We got over 300,000km of trouble free motoring out of our 2000 model gxl (diesel, manual)

      Re: kz1 recall !!!

Never heard of this and I am confident in saying it is incorrect , where I previously worked the company did a lot of research on diesel engines and would get alot of feed back from engine recoditioners on common problems with diesel engines and this has never been noted . Being in the industry you hear a lot of weird stories have not heard this one the most common was the ZD30 nissan engine with "SOFT" pistons on one of the cylinders , had nothing to do with the piston it was a problem with air flow meter . Have someone else check compression 105k sounds way to early for worn engine , if it is reguarly serviced and all fluids are checked reguarly , it could be possible in dusty conditions and no attention payed to air intake , or if some one has tinkered with the boost from the turbo . One more possibllity if you have had the head off the incorrect head gasket my have been fitted but not enough to half the compression
