Re: 2002 gxl top speed
Hi Rollie. My KZJ95R is absolutely balls out at around 145 km. Simply runs out of puff due to gearing. The autos have a better top end due to the overall higher gearing. My old 1KZ van would blow my Prado into the weeds with about 165 km top end (speedo reading). If you wish to improve the top end you could play with diff ratio's but would lose out somewhere else. (like your 1st gear would be too tall and useless for getting off the mark when towing and you would also never get out of 4th with a trailer on back) Cheers, Derb.2005 100 Series Landcruiser. 4.2 T/D 5 speed auto. I had a case of road rage a while ago when I had my'n (95 series turbo diesel grande auto) and cut a long story short if I had got hold of this p plater dickhead he would have copped it. he was in a corolla and chopped me up twice on the M4 been a smart arse with his turd of a friend, I nailed it and it held 165 but he just had the edge over me and I just couldnt get any more out of it, I look back now as to what a dickhead I was myself for doing such a thing (no one else in the car with me) but it was one of those things where I thought you little wanker and doing it twice then giving me the finger, Im probably lucky that I didnt own what I have now (120 petrol) as I probably would have got hold of him at the next turn off or set off lights and dragged him out his window. Wife went off at me deservingly so for been such a dickhead myself for not just ignoring him and let him go but this could have been an old person he did it to who may have panicked or another younger person or a family with children on board and maybe they might have swerved to avoid him and rolled them selves and he would have just driven off...........trying to keep the 95 1kz even at 120 it use to struggle and would se the fuel usage jump to 14L per 100 freeway driving, it definately didnt like getting driven like that.........Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. My 1997 3.4 Manual 95 managed 150 without to much trouble..... decided i was going just a tad to quick at that point and backed right off. was still smooth sailing at that speed though, not sure how it would go with the 33's it wears now. and not overly keen to try it to be honest.1997 3.4 V6 Rv. mods; 1 1/2 inch bodylift, 285/75/R16 cooper STTs, 16x8 sunraysia style black steel rims '0' offset, 2 inch heavy duty springs, bilstein shocks (80 series rear), GME remote mounted UHF.

I never had my old 90 petrol VX Grande over about 130 so have no idea what it would have achieved but the fuel guage dropped dramatically when driven at 130, maybe my speedo was not correct on my old 90 diesel ?? but definately was showing 165 flat to the boards with a very very slight downhill grade just past mamre rd exit to anyone who knows the M4 and Im only talking for a klm or two till I could tell he was getting away from me then dropped back to 110 when he gave me the finger again, knowing he had got away from me..........Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. I got 140 - 145 when going to pick up my caravan last year (without caravan). It was not on highway though, just on normal country road. At the time I look at speedometer, I had to stop accelerating my pedal. It still could go better than that not a problem. That's with my roof rack on top + my previous 265/70/16 Cooper.
The fuel at that speed should be crazy IMO.James
