My turbo diagnostic light started coming on after doing some rough roads the other day. A search revealed a possible cause is that vacuum hose on intetcooler has come loose. I'm a mug as a mechanic and don't even know where to look . I would be grateful if somebody could give me me some directions or maybe a pic. Thnx in advance. Frank

I've never seen a turbo light on my KZ dash.
There's a blocked air filter warning light, yellow coloured ?
OR are you referring to the CEL codes giving you a MAP sensor fail ?
Or was it the other way round?????

Without digging out the manuals and relying on failing memory, Pre 2000 1KZ had a turbo icon instead of an engine icon, but they meant the same thing, CEL.
Or was it the other way round?????

Its a KZ - 2000 model. Orange light - top one in the pic. turbocharger warning light. When pushing above 2000 rpm, light would come on and i have no power. Let it idle for 10 sec and light goes out. Drove from Mildura to Melb nursing that.1 Photo

Yes on mine that's a CEL.
Now you need to do the diagnostics check and see what fault has logged.
Diagnostics plug is near the driver's foot rest.
Check FAQ to see which pins to bridge and how to count the flashes of the CEL to determine the logged faults.
When mine did this it was code 14, timing control valve.
Others have been less dramatic and a lot cheaper to fix, loose plug on MAP sensor etc.

I had a surprise win on this today. The air filter was full of dust and insects after our recent outback trip. After picking out the bugs and beating some of the dust out of it, turbo power is fully restored. Does that sound plausible?
Due for full service next week so will replace air filter then.

You have different warning lights to mine, I have a blocked air filter warning light as well as a CEL.
But if your one warning light does multiple functions you might have scored a win.
There's a sensor on the air filter box and it warns if the filter is blocked.
Always good to win.
Blocked air filter will rob you of power and cause the engine to blow black exhaust smoke.
Often a dirty filter will run OK, but after rain, the dust cements over and then she's well and truly blocked.
