    Hi all.
    just bought a 1997 90 series prado 1kzte.
been driving fine for a couple months first start of the day was taking a while then slowly became the norm on most starts of the day after sitting puff of smoke on start up then not much while driving.
put new glowplugs in and cleaned injectors.
and my fuel tank breather was clogged so cleaned that thort that may have been the cause of my starting problems.
Occasionally when sitting at lights I'd notice a little rough idle but it wouldn't last long then go away.
Last week I did notice while on motorway at 90-100km feel tiny stutters while cruising put with the foot on the gas no stutters.
Never failed to start and drives well once on no problems.

The other day I went I start it she fired up then cut out for the first time.
then just cranking over now after that no signs of starting.

Got a new new relay but same results tested the old one with 12v operating well.

Have checked the lines fuel is getting to the fuel pump but not beyond.
I gave the spill control direct 12v to loosen it up clicking over.

I just got a multimeter but don't know how to use it yet.

She fired up twice after I did this but cut out quickly after now just back to cranking.

When I turn key to on I don't hear the injector pump relay click but when I turn the key off I hear a click.
    Is this normal?
I'm out of ideas at this point

    Any help would be appreciated.
Close to sending it to the pros and getting a 2nd hand fuel pump have been enjoying doing my
Own work but she's my daily driver so can't afford to have the 90 out of action.

    Thanks

Would the relay clicking when moving key to off/acc indicate some wiring has been crossed or has a problem?
I think I recall when I first got the car there was a relay click inside the glove box.
didn't really notice until now as I'd been listening for the glow plug relay click on startups.

You might need to remove the SCV and give the metal filters at the bottom of the valve a clean. Theirs a youtube video somewhere showing how to do this. Pretty straight forward stuff. Just give the area around the SCV a good clean before you remove it to no dirt/dust gets in the pump while removed. Also check the wiring to the pump. Make sure nothings damaged/broken. Replace the fuel filter if you havent already.

        Thanks filters been replaced.
havnt taken scv out yet cut down a 32mm spanner to fit n still couldn't get the bugger out. Lol
myt try with some vice grips saw a video doing it like that.
I'm not 2 good with wiring can't see any obvious breaks but I have been moving things about when I did injector clean and glow plugs could be brittle being 25years old.
The conduit and tape the wiring is in is pretty brittle.
Might get a auto electrician to have a look to try rule out wiring b4 I go the replacement fuel pump or scv route.

I did a video on how I fixed my cold start issue involving the SCV. Can't remember what I covered in there. It's been a while since I went through that process but whatever I did, it's still running like a new truck to this day. From memory, I measured the voltage on the plug that pluged into the SCV. Was showing about 10.9v. This voltage comes from the ECU in very fast pulses equal to revs per minute the engine is running at.

It's also possible your SCV could actually just be knackered and need replacing too. So dont rule that out! Maybe research it from that angle too. i.e.searching "symptoms of a faulty SCV"
I wouldnt go to a fuel pump "specialist" as they will very likely take you down the most expensive path and it won't be pretty. Find an old schoool mechanic if have to. They're the ones that know how to fix things and don't plug in a computer, follow instructions on a screen and just start blindly replacing parts, troubleshooting at your expense.
