Hi fellas, I’m having an idling problem intermittently with my 1kz, it jumps up and down occasionally very violently and I can feel it surge sometimes while driving. In search of this problem I have checked ecu capacitors which were mint, changed injections for a new set, replaced fuel filter twice, tried fuel system cleaner, sealed off that vacuum actuated shut off valve and am still having trouble, also hard starting too. Just today I noticed a ticking which I think is coming from the fuel pump but am not 100% sure, anyone have a clue what this could mean? cheers.

Sounds like a failing spill control valve. That is the cylindricle shaped device screwed into the top/rear of the pump with 2 wires plugged into the top of it ) assuming you have an electronic pump). Theirs a YouTube video describing how to (carefully) remove it and clean the filters inside. The solenoid in the SCV can become sticky too. Applying 12v directly from a car battery to the terminals on top multiple times in quick succession can help free it up. Don't hold 12v on their though. Quick on/off just enough to make it "click".
Failing that, inspect your wiring to the injector pump. Repair any splits in the wiring by cutting and resoldering the wire. Use shrink wrap to shield the repair. Look for any leaks in the fuel lines. Apparently the fuel filter housing (with the primer pump on top) can get small air leak in them. I replaced mine and put a cheap non return valve on the fuel line from the filter to the pump so my pump is always primed, even after sitting for a day or two. Starts in half a turn every time
Hopefully that gets you back on the road again!
