      I think it saves time and money on shims.... I didn't pick the head up from them so never had the chance to ask. (I should point out they grind the top of the valve stem to set the gap, not the seat! :wink: )

      I raised an eyebrow at first but can't really think of a negative in doing it this way :?:

        I was under the impression they were grinding the valve face and or valve seat down to muck around with heights ( and thought must bite tongue another dodgy " head specialist" ) but topping the end off the stem is another way , shimming is the correct practice but as you mentioned may be a cost factor but more likely having to stock the correct shims is also a factor as they range in many different thickness

          Perhaps they grind the valve stem to be able to set all shims the same for a starting point. Would also save on having to carry lots of different shim thicknesses
