  • LPG Tanks and clearance

I have just had my 95 changed over to injected vapor / dual fuel. When the change over was done the std 68L LPG was unavailable and they fitted the 62L tank which is 1" smaller in diameter. I can have the tank changed over for free to the correct 68L tanks but now Im in two minds about the clearance vs range debate the larger tank wont change my departure angle but would be a slight lose of clearance.

Majority of the driving will be touring style driving or beach trips as opposed to hardcore offroading. Personally leading towards the larger tank but just weighing up the options.

Also would love to see some underbody protection setups for covering the lpg tank.

    Re: LPG Tanks and clearance

I have the larger tank on a 120 series. It has reduced the ramp over angle just a bit - but has never been much of a problem. A couple of times the tank has scraped bottom but no harm done.

The only real issue I have with gas is the need to fill up much more often than when it was straight unleaded. So, to my mind its a no-brainer; go the biggest tank you can.

    Cheers

I have a 2000 GXL that has been converted to lpg as well. however, my mechanic installed a patrol tank that is around 90 litre. i understand that the only mod he had to make was to pack one of the mount brackets down a bit. i still have reasonable clearnace and like you, it's main use is my wife's transport and a bit of beach work. we have taken it off road and yes occassionally we hit the tanks but like all track crossings, you just take a bit more care. the advantage for me was more kms per tank fill. usually around town we get 460 per tank, on a trip at average of 100 kmph, we get 600 without a lot of load. i find that load is the killer
