  • 21L/100Km when towing 1.5 ton Caravan, normal or not?

    Hi bros,

Normal driving with me in city is about 18L.

Highway only at 90-100km/h is 14L.

Yesterday I tow my caravan i just bought (1.5 ton) and it costs me 21L/100km which is almost on highway at speed 70km - 110km (70km/h when up hill, 110km/h at normal condition), air con at 3rd level all time.

Is this normal or a little over the fuel consumption?

Mine is RV 97 3.4L Petrol Manual.

Sounds about right to me. I got 19.9something from 500km of 100% morning commute traffic. But I have larger tyres, lift, bullbar and winch, all of which will add to fuel consumption.

It's surprising how much better the new petrol is over the old technology, I had a 90 series and got around 14.5lts/100 in town, 19lts per 100 loaded across the Simpson and around 16.5lts/100 loaded touring country gravel.

The new 150 with essentially the same mods (steel bar, bigger tyres, lift kit, maybe some more weight in accesories gets around 12.5lts/100 around town, 17.5lts/100 off road loaded, and 14.5lts/100 loaded touring country gravel. The only down side is that I still can't get more than 120 lts per tank according to the gauges .

See ya on the tacks, Richo.

120 series with bullbar, roofrack, lift and others... towing approx 1.5t Jayco Hawk was anything from 20-25L per 100. I never ever drove for fuel consumption and always on the speed limit.
