  • Noisy petrol pump

My truck's petrol pump is very audible when idling. Once you reach, say, 30km/h the noise is not that audible because other sounds are developing. Is the noise - a fairly loud humming sound - normal?

    Hi LouisF,

From my experience once you can hear a high pressure in tank fuel pump running it will soon fail.
I work in the marine industry where we see a fair amount of water contamination of fuel, both petrol and diesel, and a noisy pump is always a first indicator of imminent failure.
My sub tank pump can be heard when the fuel level is below a 1/3 but it is a high volume pump, the standard pumps were never really audible with the engine running.

Thanks Leethal, I was afraid that would be the case.
