  • 90 Series Petrol / LPG Fuel Consumption per Kms

    Hi All

Couldn't see another thread with this topic. Please corect me if I'm wrong.

Wondering if anyone else has their 90 Series Petrol converted to hold addtional LPG source.
Would like to compare what sort of km's you're getting out of a tank of LPG.

At the moment I'm getting about 200-250 km's around town to a tank of LPG.
    99' Prado
    Manual
    3.4L V6

    Cheers

I get 220km out of a 68L tank around the city (31L/100km) except when idling for extended periods. I did get 250km on all terain tyres but decided that off road grip was more important than economy, having said that, I am always carrying at least 300kg of gear in the back with no measurable effect on economy. Ken.

Wow! I thought my wife's average of 20 L/100 was bad. Not that I'll be telling her others are getting worse economy. The best she seems to do is 340 km from 68L. I managed 18L / 100 with 33's, roofrack and loaded to the roof whilst away last trip.
Sounds like you guys could do with a decent LPG tune up!
      Cheers, Ben.

I was getting around 300 -320k's from 68lt's (21'ish lt/100) around town and pushed 380 (18/100) up the highway. Being how far i am from each fuel stop now, i may convert back to full petrol next time i'm back in town. 4wd Systems do a long range tank for the 90 which will take total holding to around 220lt's

I have to say Megz i would have ripped it out with those numbers. Go see a decent mechanic.
Worst i got out of mine was 280k's and i was straight back to my mechanic for a couple of 'tweeks' and the economy improved to the 320'ish k's

Anyway, hope this helps a bit

About time I bit the bullet. But it's time for timing belt, fan belt, and a full set of hoses, (note FULL) and the normal grease and oil change, and a set of plugs, steering rack bushes. So may have to wait for a couple of weeks. All these things really need doing fairly soon. Will see the lpg guy about what can be salvaged when going from 2nd gen to 3rd gen lpg (I believe nothing can be used) but will still get the tune up. Ken.

My manual 3.4L just used 64L LPG after 384km (16.67L/100km) of mostly suburban driving on weekends. My best was 460km from 72L LPG (15.65L/100km) of mostly highway. It's definitely worth getting your LPG tuned at the shop each year. First check your plugs, leads, air filter are in good order, then the gas shop should only need to teak the LPG sensitivity and mixture. Unless they need to do repairs, the cost of an LPG tune should pay for itself in a fill or two if your Prado is guzzling 31L/100! Figures like this drive skeptics to claim LPG isn't worth it, but it most definitely is!

For those near Brisbane, Australia, see Carb & Gas at Woolongabba for terrific LPG service.

I get 420 - 430 km from 68 litres every week, a 50/50 mix of town & country - no traffic & peak-hour slog. It had dropped to 400 km before the last service but the air-filter was 20k old so a new one plus changing my oil grade from 20w-40 to 15w-40 has restored things. Ours is a '97 5-spd 3.4 GXL.

                  Still getting 220km / 68litres.
I can hardly notice any power difference from LPG to petrol the only reason i use petrol on serious inclines is in case of a stall, I don't want to be stuffed arround by the transfer from petrol to LPG when restarting. Most of the time I just run on LPG. And still need the tune up. Since the new plugs and a new coil it can be dificult to stop the wheels spinning on the bitumen.

Also found out that you can't get 3rd gen LPG for my model.

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic that can do a tune up on the north shore in sydney. my prado is also a little on the thirty side on gas, does 22-25L/100, tried one mechanic but the was no difference after I pay him for a tune up it actually run worst.
