  • Timing Belt change - what else should be done?

Hi Prado owners, I have owned my 2002 Prado since new, now approaching 150,000 klms. Going to change the timing belt, and asking here what else I should change while doing the job, eg water pump.

I will probably pull out the radiator and replace all hoses too.

Any other things I should do at this mileage and age ? (10 years of trouble free motoring - great car !)

    Thanks, Don

Always replace the water pump, there are many brands of kits out there that have all the gear needed to replace, it should include - a new T belt, new water pump, new cam seals (front of engine), new crank seal, new tensioner pullies, and all the gaskets. and while your at it, you may as well do the rad hoses, and fan belts. There are a few options you can do also, that is to replace the cam cover gaskets and the spark plug tube seals (these are 90% of the time forgotten about), they are only cheap to replace too, so while they are doing the T belt they may as well do them too.
97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.
