Hi another newby here, i have a problem with the old girl. It's developed a miss which occurs intermitently just as you touch the accelerator. There is no problem when accelerating hard (plenty of power,no miss). We have had it to about 4 different mechanics including Toyota(which said there was nothing wrong with it). So any thoughts or advice would be appreciated :?

I had problem with rough running, lack of power, messy automatic gear changing. Toyota dealer first thought it was throttle position switch, replaced but still no good. Second attempt replaced air flow meter and the car ran like a dream.
Cost - air flow meter part $300.00 approx, installation $50.00 approx. Dealer did the work as alledgedly the computer must be set with new air meter.
Not sure where the meter is exactly, but somewhere just downstream of the air cleaner.2019 Prado GXL 2.8L Diesel

Hi bja90. Big Al here. Like Richard I am going through this too.I have your flat spot and missing at the top of the revs.First thing have the mass air flow censor cleaned (cheapest first),if this does improve things but not fix it ,have it replaced. If no difference look at the tail pipe after a long trip, is it jet black,if so this is un burnt fuel and like myself you will have noticed a drop in fuel economy. Now you will have to turn your attention to the fuel injectors.I am asuming you have replaced the do it your self things first, plugs, leads, fuel filter ect. this is where I am up to. Good luck. :?

Big Al,
Before the Prado I had an 80 series L/C on dual fuel and engine backfired about 150kms out of Kununara , whilst running on LPG.
Had to be towed in and a new Air Flow meter flown in .
The problem was traced to the spark plug leads which had arked and caused the backfire.
Investigations , as to cause , was that the leads need to be changed every 80000kms (I had done 140000) and never to hose in the general area of the plug leads ( a car detailer had done this) .
Also the spark plugs needed to be a special type for the LPG.
This may not have anything to do with what caused your problem but it might be worth checking to find out what would have caused it, so you can take steps to see it does not happen again.Pedro

Be aware. When cleaning the M.A.F, (Mass air flow) censore, we mean to use electronics cleaner, which is liquid carbon dioxide. Not WD40,RP7or a similar type product.Fit the extension nozzel to spray the spray can and thoroughly spray the vissable electrode untill it is shiney chrome again. Now if you look into the hole in the end you will see two very small electrodes.Insert the nossel in and up close to these and give them a good blast untill clean.Be sure the exsess liquid drains from the bottom, it should evaporate away quickly. Do not touch or wipe the electrodes, you can speed dry the unit with an air nossel. When refitting keep an eye on the O ring, these have a habbit of not wanting to go back into the sleave. 8)
