  • 3.4 running engine Temperature

Hi all. Had some work done to my prado, its auto 3.4, water pump, belt tensioned and idlers and pulleys done. Car came back. Thermostat reads ever so slightly warmer. Needle sits at the lower end of the D across from gauge. Last weekend notice weeping pipe, changed it lost coolant replaced it. Now needle sits at middle of D on thermostat. Can anyone tell we what their gauge says? Thinking of changing thermostat and flush whole system. Right or wrong thing?

It is possible that your thermostat was replaced with that of a different temperature rating. Mine sits smack bang in the middle.

Nope that wasnt replaced. I'm thinking of flushing the system and replacing the thermostat. I have the thermostat anyway bought it yesterday from toyota 35 bucks.

I had an over heating issue a few months ago.. Changed the radiator, hoses and thermostat. It now sits just below the halfway mark.. Even towing a heavy camper around Moreton Island for a week it didnt budge.

It will be the thermostat, they have used an after market one, they operate at a different temperature hence they make the vehicle run a little hotter. I wouldn't worry about it, just keep the Toyota one as a spare if the temps rise during summer

Was the WP replaced with a genuine or aftermarket pump? The reason I ask is that I have personally had problems with cheap pressed metal vane pumps. I used one I had on the shelf once, I couldn't work out why I had one. Ten kms down the road with the overflow bottle spitting coolant I remembered why it wasn't already on the car. Threw that thing to the sh*thouse and put a cast impeller pump on, perfect! Nissan and Subaru have both been known to run hotter with pressed impeller pumps.
