So should shut up and stop complaining about my 16.3lt/100k average at the moment then

My 2001 is on LPG. The best I've had so far is 19.5l/100km on a highway run at 90km/h. Average around town is 21-22 with the worst being 24l/100km. It gets better though. I took the misses, kids and the dog along with a 16 foot poptop caravan from Melbourne to Bright for a few days. Got 225 kays from a tank of LPG. That's a figure of 29l/100km, and travelling at 80-90 km/h up the Hume. The misses has a V8 Adventra which are known for there thirst but doesnt get near that bad. Even if you take off 10% off the figures for LPG, it's still crap and I've had enough. 60 cents per litre is the only thing keeping me happy. Just.
          Cheers

I thought the usage of LPG was about twice that of ULP... therefore the 24l/100 would be equal to 12l/100 on ULP.

Re: Fuel consumption... Petrol 90 series only

Did a run from Bris northside to Lennox head & back via Camira so app 90% motorway driving.
428km for 47l is 10.9l/100 or 26mpg according to the trusty castrol fuel economy calculator - filled and refilled the tank at same spot to the 2nd click
That was running on V-Power this time.
Last time I did a run like that got 13l/100 on Freedom 95 (E10)
Didn't go over 100kph, just stayed with the traffic, and used the aircon all the way so normal sedate driving.
The car was lightly loaded for a family picnic, I don't have racks/drawers/winch etc. just running 16x8 alloys with non LT duelers at 36psi, alloy factory bar
my speedo reads a few kays higher at 100kph so one could split hairs about the numbers

It's a good benckmark run because I plan to have the injectors cleaned, mod the inlet tube, K&N, and replace the centre section of the exhaust. maybe a chip based on the othere retports in here.

BTW Humphrey with numbers like that something's got to be wrong with your LPG tune. I'd suggest someone check that out for you, maybe get a 2nd opinion from another garage.

Guess it depends on the car, I used to have a dual fuel VP Commodore and I'd get about 2/3 of the fuel economy on gas as opposed to petrol.

I have been driving up the coast towing a small poptop on LPG about 350Km on a 78Litres LPG. I am considering getting a hiclone however would need to get a dynotune after fitting it. Would like to hear any feedback from the hiclone?

Re: Fuel consumption... Petrol 90 series only

Spent just over a week camping in the southwest of WA. Car was fully loaded inside and the oztent on the roof for around 800kms. This included around 100kms of offroad driving near black point and lake jasper before heading towards augusta on the coastal track. The other 800 odd kms was spent with just the engel and general gear driving on the blacktop (except for a trip to Kilcarnup beach for some fishing).

Did a total of 1590kms (GPS corrected distance) and used 212litres for an average of 13.3L/100. Am happy with that

I have a dual fuel (gas injected), manual, 00 GXL with 265/75 Goodyear MTR's and find when pushing it hard (low range) through bog holes and the like in the vic high country and with tyre pressures around 22psi, I get around 24l/100k's on gas. Around town it gets about 17l/100 on gas and on long trips slightly less.
Are others getting such bad economy?? I previously owned a HJ60 diesel and the worst I ever got was 17l/100 through the simpson desert!

                        Mine's 100% petrol with MTZ's and I get:
                        - VIC high country in the dry (~24 PSI) = 22L/100km
                        - Highway (37/38 PSI) = 13 - 18L/100km depending on how quickly I want to get home.
(So your figures, with GAS, sound good.)

Mate we are getting around 23 to 24 L/100 country driving on LPG!
265/76/16 ATs, smart bar, lifted, 180000km, empty! I've had a dyno tune recently and changed / cleaned all the usual things. Have previously seen a best of 17 L /100 on the open road.
I've got a couple of things left to try. If I can't improve it we may have to ditch the prado. 23L /100 km unladen on open roads is a joke - no matter how much I like the prado.

I get around 20l/100kms around town on gas. drops to about 18l/100kms on open road. 2001 vx.

used to get 18l/100kms around town on cooper highway tyres, the new d694s softer so hence the increase.

I thought my 22L/100km's fully laden with camper trailer in tow was not that flash, but after reading this thread I don't feel so bad. Thats with BF Muddies and camper trailer with 160lts of water. I've just had a tune and am doing another test run this coming weekend. Trying to get some accurate figures before heading to the cape next month.

Torrie I reckon its those muddies that are killing you. get two more HT's, put the lot on and you should get it down to 18 around town.
