Gday all, my prado is a 95 3.4 petrol auto with 260k on it, in this summer I noticed an odd starting issue (not a big problem just a bit annoying).
in the hot days, the first try of cold start would be very hard, normally just stall right after start. But I noticed that if I turned the key to "on" position without cranking the motor for a while (1-2 minutes), then the engine would start as it should. This only happens when the temperature is high and the engine is cold (after 2-3 hours parking in the sunshine or warm morning), and when it happens, the 2nd try of cranking Always start the engine no problem. To me it feels like there is not enough fuel vapour and the engine need the fuel pump to run for a while to get the fuel into it.
The engine runs beautifully though, no lose power, no odd noise, fuel economy is still as good as before.
In the new year holidays I serviced the car and put in new sparks, leads, 4WD battery (not for fixing this problem just for my well-maintain feeling but the issue still there. As it didn't bother me much I am not in hurry to fix it, now every morning I just turn the key to "on" first, then go to put my shoes on etc. to waste 2 minutes, then start the car...
Any idea what could it be? The Idle control valve?
Thanks & Cheers !!
Ted
