    gas conversion

Hi There John, yes Im about to take the plunge to and get it done. Im in western suburbs and trying to find some one as well who has done it before and no issues and not get ripped off but most important does a top job. I have done a google search and seems most who have had it done are happy and wished they had done it earlier. If I find out any more info will let you know. Regards Steve

          Gas

Just booked mine in today and will be done on the 13th of August at the same place, how much did you pay if you dont mind me asking ?? I got quoted $2900 including the Flash Lube thingy was an extra $50 but suppose to help with the heads, valves. Sounds like he's done a few which is a good thing. I spoke to a guy by the name of Greg, very helpfull and informative and gives a 2 year warranty. He told me to drive around for about 20thou after gas fitment then get the tappets checked/adjusted and that should be it. They are supposed to be adjusted by Toyota every 20 I think it is but can be assured Toyota has not touched them on mine (Typical). He said the tank size is 84.4L which is the biggest out of all the places I rang today and has a useable 67L. They also fit an oxygen sensor in the exhaust (prado doesnt have one) and runs some other mini computer thing so everything runs ok and to also alleviate backfiring. The main guage on dash is wired so that it shows full all the time as to get rid of the low fuel light and they fit a digital guage to the left of steering colum. they use to use the guage on the dash for the gas but he said they are to inaccurate so have gone the digital one. Will hand down a bit lower then the standard fuel tank but to be expected. Well worth the $900 out of pocket. I will recoup that with in roughly 3 months after that money in my pocket. See how it goes. Regards Steve M

              Hey Steve,

Mine cost the same price, I got the flashlube as well. When I went in and paid my deposit he had 2 prados there fitting them up. They do it all in 1 day which is pretty good too.

I will be mainly using the car to tow a drag car around sydney and up to QLD so hopefully it will be ok on the LPG consumption

                Gas

Yeah I am dropping my'n off on the tuesday night before and picking up wednesday afternoon. They are even lending me a loan car as well all in the price. Have you noticed any difference in performance just running around in the last 150k ?? I'm looking forward to the saving. I have worked it out that going to Forster and Central Coast which we do a lot of it will cost the same amount in dollar terms as my wifes Toyota Yaris Sedan, and then the 4wdriving on top of that so will recoup the costs very quickly. Also I think when it come time to sell will have a lot better chance of selling if on gas especially if petrol hits the $2 mark. Regards Steve M

so far it seems to have as much power as with the petrol. it looks like I will get about 350-400km out of the first tank with all mostly local city driving.

I rang Toyota Australia today and they told me that the engine isn't compatable with gas.
I then rang NRMA tech advise they said if you converted to lpg it may reduce engine life.
So now I think I will keep it on petrol.
                      Cheers

My engine has done 300,000kms so if it does reduce the engine life I guess I cant complain too much.

I guess its similar to ethanol fuels, most manufaturers will say they are not compatible with older models because that way they are not reliable if anything happens and they dont have to waste money researching to confirm it is possible.
