    Hi guys

Everyone with the 90 series prado that have have had their 4wd's converted to LPG pls advice on where they got it installed, how much they paid if they dont mind and what Brand they got installed.
Please also advice how happy their were with the installation and the installer?

I am looking at getting my 99 model prado converted over to LPG but not sure what brand to go for and what installer to get it installed with?

    system types

Hi, guys. Sorry to bring this back again I know this topic has been discussed a few times, and I'm sure it'll keep coming back.
I have read ALL LPG related discussion in 90 Series Section, many people has talked about fuel consumption, power .etc etc after the conversion, but not many discussion about system type used in their 90 series Prado.

I'm keen to know what kind of system should I go for if I decide to convert now. There are 3 type of systems, converter/mixer, vapour injection and liquid injection, what do you guys use (90 series user only).
The guy in Gas-man in Sydney told me I don't need injection system for my car (2000 Pardo VX). Do you (90 series owner) agree ?

From my understanding, converter/mixer system is similar to old day carburetter, for sure some people still say carburetter is working fine but no new car use them any more. Shoud I pay more for injection system or it's just waste of money ?

I have a 99 model prado and thinking of doing the converstion to LPG i have done some research and this is what i have found so far.
With the old style system there is a chance that it wil backfire... it is better to get a vapour injection but it will be even better to get liquid injection but apparently the Liquid injection system is very new in OZ and not sure if there is a kit for the liquid injection for the 90 series.
I did talk to a installer in wollongong that said he will be able to convert the 90 series on the liquid injection system for around the $5000 mark not sure on what system he was talking about but he said he was going to source the parts and make a kit for the 90 series.
Apart from that if you want to go with vapour injection then brand such as impco, tartraini landiranzo are recommended...
for the 90 series i would only get either the vapour or the liquid injection system....
Do keep us updated on your findings?

I'm not prepared to go liquid injection simply because it is too new, rather more tend to Vapour Injection system but every installer told me I don't need it but yet they didn't give technical reason. :?
No one else want to contribute ?

I am a bit scared of getting the liquid installed as well since its new but i am going to wollongong over the weekend to see a install being done for a liquid injection system and getting my 4wd checked to see if it can be installed or not... and if it will be benefical or not
          will keep you updated.
There are a lot of guys that have been putting the liquid injection in their XR6, 8's new falcons etc.. but havent heard of it being on a Toyota as of yet

I think I'll change my mind to go for traditional ventury system after talking to several installers last week. They all reckon 90 series Prado won't be benefit from injection system. The major benefit of injection system is less gas consumption but there is no proof yet, even it is true, you may end up only save $2 gas per week, for over $1500 more expensive it'll take more than 10 years to earn it back, not a good investment. If you really want to Liquid Injection, good luck and enjoy

General answers that I've got are, some cars (falcon in particular) suffer from backfire problems, but not Prado that they have installed. If the gas system is well tuned it shouldn't be a problem. At the end I can only trust them as experts

I'll go down to pay deposite tomorrow 8)

Hi guys I had my 99 Prado fitted with gas about 3 weeks ago. I am very happy with it it has halved my fuel bill. It was fitted with an airod system closed loop by gas-n-go at prestons. The guys at gas-n-go have done heaps of Prado's thats why they got my Prado.
The cost was $2900 and that included flash lube they do the job in 1 day and you can get a loan car from them. On there web site they have a price guide the addy is www.gas-n-go.com.au
They recommend that u change plugs and leads every 40,000km to prevent back fire.
I hope this helps you guys.
                      Cheers
                      John

The wait is over
Conversion is completed today, the car run very smooth, I can't feel anything difference at all. Hwever there are 2 issues. 1) Idle too low, 2) when I switch from petrol to gas, the engine halt immediately.
I'll run it for a few more days and give more feedback.

OK you've had it for a few months now. Is there any feedback you can share with us, as I too am considering this conversion.

                          cheers

Oh, sorry... haven't checked this site for some time
As far as running/performance after conversion, it is everything good. The idling is settled down, switch from petrol to gas problem is because of the 3 way switch, i.e. petrol <-> off <-> gas, so the gas can not catch up in that 1/1000 second of OFF, that's not a problem anyway.
The only thing is, I'm not satisfied with the gas consumption, many forum post that I've seen indicate 310 - 320 Km per 65L tank for 90 series Prado, but so far the best that I could get was 295km, recently dropped to 275 km. With this consumption I worked out I can only save about $800 - $900 fuel cost per year. Keep in mind I need to spend extra money for LPG services annually, so the saving could be < $800. Initially I was expecting > $1000 fuel saving per year.

have just completed two months after lpg conversion(gas injection) and average somewhere between 420-430 klms on a 72 litre tank( highway driving). so far have experienced no loss in power but have lost about 35mm clearance at the back where the tank has replaced my main tank.(will now do a lift job).
