  • Oil leak on a 3.4L Petrol

I am seeing if anyone else had issue with an oil leak on te left side near the oil cooler? I have checked everything and replaced the seals on the oil cooler but the leak still exists. I believe it could be leaking from the oil cooler flangers. It is slow but like any leak, a pain in the rear.

If anyone has had a simular issue and what was the fix?

Oil leak found to be a missing plug, please see photo. Confirmed the missing part by getting a friend to check his Prado and his is also leaking. Would just need to replace the O ring on it. Toyota presently doesn't have the part for the engine but found one of the other V6 engines have a plug. The other option is to block it by jamming a bolt with sealant around it.

Hope this helps others as Toyota couldn't isolate it and kept saying it was the oil cooler was leaking.

My Toyota dealer said that Prado's have a tendency to leak from the seals of the rocker cover (as mine does) it is quite slow and said not to worry at this point but to watch for any increase. That was 12 months ago and no real change. Apparently this is a bitch of a job to rectifier. Is it really that hard to work on these engines?
4 wheels, spotties, cassette/cd sound system, engine, windows, radio receive thing, buttons, mats, drink holder, round steery thing, a shin 'ouch' doobeywaker. And let's not forget the bonnet pop ''lets av a chat' mechanism.

The only leak was from that hole above the sump, it is missing a plug which Toyota doesn't have any more. Amazing what a bolt and seal can fix.
