  • New Exhaust (with extractors)

    Hi All,

I thought I would share some photo's of the new exhaust system I had fitted today. I had a set of Wildcat extractors fitted with a custom 2 1/4 inch sports systems fitted. So far so good with the upgrade. The difference with regards to normal city driving is negligible, although it does seem to accelerate a bit smoother. Im hoping the difference will show more when getting down and dirty in low range.

The Wildcat extractors are not fully mandrel-bent, but they are the only off-the-shelf ones I found available for the 3.4 V6. The muffler is a straight-through one... it is a little louder than standard, but gives a nice rumble at low revs and under load (very happy with the sound). The good thing is, at cruising speed there is very little noise. For those wondering, I have not noticed any difference to the engine vibration experienced between 2500 & 3000 rpm. Only time will tell what it does for the fuel economy.

All up the cost was $1200 ($850 for the extractors & $350 for the exhaust). The whole thing was fitted at Mettam's Mufflers in Belmont (WA). Once the extractors came in from QLD, they had it fitted approx 4 hrs. They even put a nice little stainless steel tip on the end. Very happy with the service.

    Hey Wolfcub,

Thanks for posting the pics, what a sexy exhaust

Tough to know how much benefit comes from the headers as they're not mandrel bent, but you must be chuffed anyway.

Keep us posted on long term benfirts / fuel consumption!

    Cheers..
    Jam.

        Re: New Exhaust (with extractors)

        Hi Rossy,

The Wildcat Headers are made by Genie Headers. Part # is WILD290.

        Check out their site: http://www.genieheaders.com/NEW%20RELEASES.html

Most exhaust places should be able to source (and fit) the parts for you. Good Luck!

looks good! any reason behind going a 2 1/4 and not 2 1/2?
            was the exhaust custom made?

thinking of doing something similar with mine when funds permit, but would most likely go a 2 1/2

              Hi All,

Not wanting to Hi-jack but I have read quite a few posts where people say that it's hard to find extractors for a 90 series. I know Wildcat/Genie do these ones that Wolfcub has installed, but I also found this place advertising extractors on eBay. They advertise Pacemakers, but I emailed them and they can supply a set of Redbacks to suit my '97 for $560 + freight. If you want an alternative, check them out. http://www.onautos.com.au

              Carry on

                Re: New Exhaust (with extractors)

Pacemaker must have added them just recently! They say fully mandrel bent, part number: PH 12660
might have to get some

edit: they say Feb 98-Feb 03 for models. Anyone know the difference between say a 96 and a 98 exhaust wise?
