Hey, swapped my old Dayco thermostat for a Toyota one and my Prado is running hotter. The temp needle used to sit around 1/4. Now it sits 1/2 way. My TM1 temp sensor shows its running around 10 degrees hotter now. I just wanted to know if 1/2 way is normal for my 3.4v6? Summer is coming and I'm a bit concerned. Thanks for any info regarding other owner's needle positions.

They are both 82 degrees celcius. They are both 'correct types for my 5vz-fe. The Dayco is still good and works. I know the coolant should run between 82-88 hot, but I can't find info on needle position. The only spot I could find for my TM1 sensor was on a thermostat housing bolt- which reads approx 45-65 max..
I can always rip out the new thermostat and put the old one back in, or buy a high-flow thermostat, but my car could be running normal now?
Thanks for your reply.

Thanks guys. I will leave it alone for now and see what happens. I have spent hours looking at forums in the USA- 5vz-fe Tacoma, they call them, and alot of owners swear that they run cooler if thermostat jiggle valve put in at 6 oclock instead of 12 oclock, for some reason. Just got me Prado and love it. Been reading up on them (on Prado Point for months). Was gunna get a Pajero v6 until read what a nightmare job it is just to change spark plugs! These Prados best deal for the money. Done radiator and hoses, drivetrain fluids, filters, new iridium Denso plugs, Cleaned MAF sensor, T.body, new battery, etc....spent three grand in last couple weeks. Reminds me of marriage- love is grand, but ends up costing a fortune.

Mine sat a tad below 1/2 for the 12yrs I owned for. It crawled up to 1/2 way on occasion during the early stages of the radiator getting partially blocked.2005 120 series V6 Grande, 2 inch susp lift (King/EFS combo), 32 inch MT’s, Safari Snorkel, rear diff lock, breathers, Light Force spotlights, UHF, dual batteries.
