Hi all im new to the toyota scene so i need some advice. I have a 99 v6 which has started blowing a heap of blue/white smoke mainly on start up and the engine feels way down on power, any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated as I want to explore all possibilities before buying a new motor :[ . Cheers all Jughead :? Just to add which coolant do they use the red or the green :?

    Re: 99 v6 blowing blue/white smoke

    Hi Jug,
The blue/white smoke is most likely caused by oil being burned. You lack of power could be caused by loss of compression. Both could be the result of worn piston rings.

I would have a mechanic do a compression test on the engine.

Of course these symptoms could also be caused by less expensive things like the MAF sensor may be responsible for your power loss....

    Cheers,
    Declan.

      Hi Jug,
Re: the edit to your post.
I only every use the genuine Toyota coolant which is red. Make sure you flush your system thoroughly when changing the coolant. And don't forget to flush the heater core inside the cabin too.

That's interesting. I've only ever seen red coolant in bottles with Toyota packaging.

Get your mechanic to do a compression test as suggested before

How many k's has the vehicle done :?:

And yes, the genuine Toyota red coolant as the best for Toyota engines, my mechanic uses nothing else.

                  Re: 99 v6 blowing blue/white smoke

Well I have pulled the old motor down and OMFG what a mess, under the rocker covers you could not see the cam journals where they bolt to the heads or any of the oil return galleries, infact once I pulled the heads off I found one return gallery on each side was completely blocked with sludge as well as the oil pick up, and to make matters worse the water pump was leaking internally, the water jackets were blocked as well as the water pipe that runs under the inlet in the valley area had been leaking and it is all rusty in there and the thing had obviously been cooked as there are hot spots in all the bores.Atleast I know the motor I have put in is good as I removed the rocker covers and sump before installing to have a look and it was pristene. I will post some photes as soon as I can as words do not do the poor condition of this motor justice.
