      Re: fuel consumption ?

There's another thread on fuel economy in this section

15L/100km isn't too bad with muddies on though.
With 98 I get about 18L/100km (that's with muddies, bullbar, roofracks, roof lights, 100kg of tools).

Best thing to bring it down though if you want to use a little less is a unifilter or k&n. I installed a unifilter in mine and it bought the consistent fuel economy down from 20L to 18L

        Re: fuel consumption ?

Just back from a nine day 1,700 km trip from Sydney to Murray River and northern part of the Victorian High Country. We averaged 15.4 l/100 km over the whole trip. This included over two days of very hard 4WD, with lots of first and second gear low range for a few hours. The car was fully loaded, with bull bar, roof racks, roof top tent, full load of fuel for the hardest 4WDriving, 40 litres of water and more. This is using normal Unleaded fuel.

This is about average for this sort of trip and almost identical to our 2007/8 trip to the High Country.

          Re: fuel consumption ?

I just come back from my 3,800km trip to Tasmania - Mel.

          I am using 98 petrol.

Normal driving with 2/3 highway + 1/3 local will be 13L/100km.

Normal local driving only will be 15L/100km.

          Cheers,

People will tell you it makes a difference, but it really won't "performance" wise. The longer and more bends in your intake, the worse it is. However having said that the air is likely to be forced in there a little more than the standard intake position (which is in the front quarter panel). Overall it evens itself out, but you would have the added safety of not worrying about water getting in.

Get the filter for sure though. Will pay for itself easily within a year

                      Re: fuel consumption ?

Been using an ipod app to keep track of my consumption, handy little tool. Recently (1400kms ago) had all the fluids replaced in my prado, diffs, transmission, engine and my economy has gone from averages of 14.3's to the last tank of general driving around town got me 9.92L/100kms. Tank before that I got 11.3L/100kms towing a boat and loaded with camping gear to lake glenbawn and running up to forster and back. Im just running standard unleaded and very happy with the economy being delivered at the moment.

Some people can get really good consumption figures, however it also depends on the driving style, weather conditions, traffic conditions, road conditions, ect.
I have personally got 1300k's out of one fill, but I doubt I can get that again, because the above conditions will change, but I am regularly getting better than 12lts/100km.

Thats a nice assumption mate. Considering my figures are the lowest quoted, I am assuming you are referring to me? Last time I checked on a calculator, 720kms travelled divided by 72.6L put back in the tank equals what I quoted. I dont drive like a leadfoot and I keep the engine well maintained, keep the tyre pressure spot on and no mods on the car. Not impossible to get good mileage on the bitumen.
