      Re: Trip Economy

The best economy I've gotten with my 3.4L V6 Prado was 12 to 13L per 100km on the highway at 90km/h for a few thousand km. Otherwise I'll usually return between 14.5L and 16L per 100km when driving normally. Once on Fraser Island we were driving back on the eastern beach from near the northern tip into a fierce head wind, on a wet boggy beach with a half full incoming tide and we were getting 33L/100km. Yes that's right!! 1L per 3km... That's V8 Supercar territory with the fuel usage figures before they switched to ethanol fuels. I was only driving the car at 50km/h and it was struggling pushing into that head wind in wet boggy sand, with 5 people in the car.

        Re: Trip Economy

I've hit 33L/100KM on the beach as well - and that was with a 2.0L Grand Vitara! (2-door)

            Re: Trip Economy

This is the stuff I use to use on my old V6 3.4 prado motor. I have had both petrol and diesel as Declan would know, the petrol around town running A/T's Bf's and running 75 profile instead of the 70 I was using 17.2 round town but that was extreme stop starting, to and from work 16k round trip, runs over to local shops etc no freeway or highway driving what so ever, freeway driving the best I ever got was 12.2L per 100, the diesel 95 series grande auto was around the 14.2s round town and best ever freeway driving no off road and keeping it under 100k was 9.8, if sticking to the speed limits 110k etc was 10.8/11's L per 100. If it was extremely humid/raining this would jump to low 13's freeway driving and the power loss was noticable. I now have the 120 petrol 05 5 speed auto, is around 16 city driving, down to 11's on long runs but this is with road tyres. I am in the process of getting a set of 17x7.5 steel rims to fit some BFG muddies up to but these will only be for off road, love the quitness of the factory road tyres for round town. The 1kz was pretty gutless on the sand and believe it or not was on par for drinking the diesel when on stockton beach, the petrol was heaps better climbing the dunes then the diesel which ran out of puff. Add to the costs of changing oil and filter every 5k, plus the added bonus of getting petrol for 20c a litre cheaper on the cheap days, then petrol isnt that bad plus the extra coin you will pay up front when buying the diesel in the first place. Yes diesel will hold its value better then petrol but been prados they dont lose that much compared to other brands. D4D is totally different again but with some of the dramas pp members are having with D4D engine mounts, injector issues etc if your out of warranty then the few extra $$$ you pay weekly for unleaded is well worth it when an injetor for a D4D is around $1000 bucks each   Would hate to think how much an engine mount is worth :?: with vacumm control and so forth...........
