  • Diff drain plug???

I was changing all the oils in my Prado yesterday, all went well exept for the front diff. What tool do i use to undo the drain and filler plugs? Is it just a big allen key (which i don't have) or something else?

    Thanks in advance.

    Diff plug

If its the same as the 120 series you will need a 10mm allen key.

1/2 right. The filler plug is a 10mm allen key, but what size is the drain plug? It looks like 12-13mm, i don't really want to have to buy them all if i can help it.
Should have just measured it while i was under there i know!!!

I recently drained my front diff and used a 10mm Allen key. From memory the drain plug is large and flat, where as the filler isnt quite as large, but the 10mm key definately fitted both plugs.

I did have some problems getting the key into the drain plug because some mud had rusted into the socket. I had to scrape out the edge of the socket to define its shape, and then hammer the key in place until was secure.

When I removed the plug I cleaned out the mud and rust and its all good again.

Mine is a 2002 turbo diesel, not sure if that makes any difference?

I used the same allen key for the filler as for the drain plug. It was pretty tight, I had to use the long end of the key, and a big shifting spanner on it.

          Mine's a 3.4L petrol.
