  • Door Lock Problem

I've tried to search for an answer to this problem but no luck so far, so I apologise if it's been covered elsewhere. I have a Jan 00 90 series GXL, auto/petrol, which has almost done 130k. It has manual central locking.

Every now and then I get out of the car, lock the driver's door and the doors lock. A few minutes later they all spring up unlocked!!

Yesterday I was driving along and I could hear the door locking mechanisms locking on and off as I was driving along but not operating the catches up or down.

I seem to be able to fix it by locking the doors via the rear cargo door and that appears to reset it. It's driving me mad.. is this common?

    Hi Trevor,
I'ts possibly one of the door lock switches. The fact the you can stop the problem using the rear door lock might indicate that it is the faulty switch. The other more costly possibility is the Integration Relay (or central locking ECU) is cactus.

I'd be getting it checked by an auto electrician.

    Cheer,
    Declan.

I had a similar experience once, where the central locking seemed to muck up. Turned out to the the door lock on the rear cargo door jamming and causing the whole central locking system to malfunction. I unlocked the rear cargo door and relocked it, ensuring that the key turned fully and the whole central lock system was functional again.

I recently had the same problem thought I was on the stuff I took back on my teens - went for about a week and by the time I had a chance to look at the locks
the locks seem to have stopped playing up

          Cheers fellas.

It happened to me once before in WA about 5 yrs ago and just after a heavy duty clean (high pressure hose) coming off the Gibb River Rd. I used a guerney the other day after a Flinders trip and it's triggered again.....I might just have to use an ordinary hose in the future...

PS and now I've read my post I see that I hit the 00 instead of the 99 - that's why it hasn't got remote control central locking - just off the turning of the key,

My problem , Prado RV 2001, is that the driver's door lock sometimes will not open or shut using the key - the key simply will not turn.
The locks were serviced a couple of years ago and started using the spare key as it was unused - the problem sort of went away.
We now have have the same problem with the passenger door, rear door and still the drivers door. - still a random problem.
We got a new key cut - and still had the problem. Toyota suggest replacing all the locks but i am not convinced because the passender door and rear door have very little use with the key and I do not expect them to be worn much at all

Does anybody have any suggestions before i spend a coupe, of hindred dollars inly to find, which i expect, that the problem has not beed cured?

I’m hoping someone can help me. I have an issue with the unlocking of my car. I used to be able to place my hand in side the drivers door handle to unlock all doors. Somehow this function has switched over to the passenger front door. So now when I place my hand in the drivers door it only unlocks that door not all of them. Can someone please advise how I can change it back to drivers door.

For a 90 series? I did not think the 90 series had this at all.
