    Hi Richard,
That doesn't sound good. I think you may have to fork out the $1200 as Toyota will likely need to replace your immobilizer, keys and ignition barrel.

I remember looking at getting keys a while back and I think is was +$100 per key from Toyota.... not cheap!

thought if you had a spare (or the tag number) then toyota or specialist locksmiths can do something for you? be worth checking to see what your options are before handing over $1200. Also check your insurance policy to see what they cover for this event too...

A mate had all his keys stolen for his Lexus and it cost $5000 to reconfigure all the technology - insurance have cleverly got a limit on keys (in his policies) of $300. If he had another set they could have just cloned them and he'd have got off lightly.

Have a chat to your local locksmith. I once lost the keys to my motor bike. The locksmith contacted the manufacturer with the bikes details and they gave him the codes to cut the key and code the chip. I did have to go to the dealer and collect the key in person, (with my rego papers and proof of purchase docs) before they would release the info to the locksmith.

          Worth a try though.
