  • Different names of Prado (USA)

    Hi Mates,

I am from europe (Poland) and here the Prado is called Land Cruiser J90 but the point is I don't know how it is called in USA. Is is some Lexus? I'm asking about LC from 1996-2005(?) with 1KD-FTV motor (KDJ95).

I need it because I want to buy it from US (much cheaper than in Poland).

    Would You help?

    Best Regards!

Re: Different names of Prado (USA)

      Mates,

Here in the US the Prado is in 2 versions.

The original one is called the Lexus GX 470....

The same chassis and running gear is used to create the FJ Cruiser....

      enjoy....

I just Googled Land Cruiser Colorado. It may be the same vehicle as the Prado, but it never sold here in the US.

The only Colorado here in the US is the Chevy Colorado pickup truck.

one more thing Mates, do you know where can I download the owner's manual from? Here in Poland we've got very little to none informations about LC Prado, so I would like to read some things about that car.

            Is it possible?

              Aleph,

I picked up a sales brochure for the Lexus GX 470. I know it's different, but if you want it send me your snail mail address and I will send it to you.

Land Cruiser Colorado is for the United Kingdom market if I remember correctly.

They don't call it the Prado in UK.

                  Regards
                  Cheers

OK the 1996-02 Prado has the same platform as the 4Runner from that vintage (ie. frame suspension and gearbos) but the body is different, and the same goes for the 120 series prado too. But they never sold a diesel engine in the US

However, lexus has the GX470 which is the same as the 120 prado but with a V8 and still no diesel.

The FJ cruiser is from the 120 series too, but is shorter, and once a again there is no diesel.

All the Toyota Off Road are identified by number and letters.
The code consists in two parcels. On the firs pacel is identified by this order:
                            - Engine Type
                            - Model
                            - Series
                            - Sterring wheel position
                            - Body Type.

On the second parcel are other descriptons as:
                            - transmition type
                            - Level of equipement
                            - Country of origin
                            - etc....

The first letters identify the engine type: B, F, H, HD, HZ, PZ, KZ, KD,...

After that comes the model name J for Prado (all over the world except in Europe wich is Land Cruiser, and Colorado in England)

Next is the model reference: 20,..,25,..,28,..,40,41,42,43,44,45,46,47,55,56,60 ,61,70,71,73,74,75,77,78,79,80,90,95,100,101,...

The first letter after the serie/version indicates the steering wheel position: L(left hand drive) R or nothing (right and drive)

The next letter is the body type:
                            - V for "Hard Top",
                            - G for "Station Wagon"
                            - P for "Pick-up"
                            - nothing for "Soft-Top"

On the second pacel we can see:

                            - transmition type: K for 4 speed gear box, M for 5, P for auto 4 speed, and nothing for 3 speed.

                            - Kind of rear door: Nothing for style pick-up read door, C for Ambulance type (opening to the side), N to open up like a station wagon.

                            - Equipement type: E for VX, N for GX / LX and R for Standard.

                            - Destination market: W for Europe, Q for Australia, Y for Japan, K for Canada, A for USA, V for Middle East.
