I was wondering if anyone was aware of the fitment of an electric thermofan, like the Davies Craig, as a replacement for the clutch fan on the KZJ95 turbo diesel?
Hi Wizard,
I don't think an electric fan would have any chance of keeping a turbo diesel at a normal running temp on a hot summers day. The amount of air that the viscious fan moves would be more than any 12v could hope to. I know on my Prado when that fan cuts in the noise it makes is like a jumbo taking off
I reckon the thing to remember is that you only have to get any alloy headed engine hot once and there is nearly a 100% chance you will have a cracked cylinder head which equals big dollars.
I will follow this one with interest. After a long run on a hot day, when starting from a stand still you can really feel the effect of that fan turning. I reckon it must account for a good few kilowatts.
