  • 90 and 95 series...whats the difference?

    Landcruisers work in series of 10. The general term for this shape prado is the 90 series. Officaly the 90 is a short wheel base 3 door, and the long wheel base 5 door as sold in Australia is a 95 series.

    The best example is the 70 series
    70 = short wheel base, similar to a Bundera
    73 = Mid wheel base FRP top
    74 = Turbo diesel MWB FRP top
    75 = utes & troopys
    78 = newer utes and troopys with coil front suspension
    79 = new utes & troopys with V8 diesel
    there was also a 70 series prado sold over seas but im not sure of its exact number

    each series refers to the body shape
    40 = old shortys and troopys
    50 = very rare wagon
    60 = very comon wagon
    70 = comercial 4WD's, as above
    80 = wagons
    90 = prado
    100 = new wagons
    110 = Toyota didnt produce a 110 as it is a comon landrover model
    120 = New prado

    Top reply Yota - Thanks.

    I had no idea what the numbers were about - it looked like a Toyota guy was chucking darts one day and came up with some numbers.

    Is there any reason why there is such a gap between the 120 and the new 200 ?? The cynic in me would say it's a marketting ploy to make the new one sound like a huge advancement over the previous model.

    Cheers

      Yota,

      your description of the Toyota model theory isn't quite correct.

      The 105 Series Landcruiser was the essentially a TD 4.2 trayback 78 series.
