  • 7 Eleven is right, or Toyota is right with second tank of 90 series?

    Hi bros,

This is just my notice of my second tank this week. In the past, I always found that if I used the 2nd tank down to the time it surges the car and I changed to 1st tank, then the 2nd tank will be filled up with around 56.5 - 57 L of petrol (because it should has around 3L left in the tank).

However, yesterday, it was totally different. After running out of petrol on 2nd tank, I changed to 1st tank and run for about 90km, then stop at 7 Eleven shop closes to my house and fill up both tanks.

Very surprisingly, the 2nd tank consumes of 61.55 L which in my experience now my second tank will be able to keep ~65L of petrol, which never happened before.

I talked with 7 Eleven guys and they said their equipments are ok and tell me I can call their head office if I think there is not right calculation. However, one of 7 Eleven staff said that one customer in the past also claimed the same thing like that about that petrol pump (the one that i haven't used before from that station, normally I used another pump in that station). Although they said they will double check the pump, they still insist that their pumps should be ok.

My question is, is there any way that my second tank will be able to keep ~65L of petrol rather than the number 60-62L information from Toyota?

Or I just got another bad luck with petrol station (if this assumption is right, then the story will be very different, because everyday there is hundreds people stop by to get petrol from there)?

The main tank has a capacity of 90L and the sub tank holds 69L.

Who ever it was, that told you that the sub tank holds 60-62L, is wrong.

Yep agree with Declan. While on the subject James, mate dont keep doing that anyway (going till it surges or cuts out) you will stuff the fuel pump (besides sucking all the shit upto the strainer) and these pumps are not cheap. Id be changing over some where below the 1/4 mark but not so close to empty (unless you absolutely need to) I use to keep my main just over the 1/4 mark so the low fuel light wouldnt stay on when running on the reserve tank. And the reserve I would run down till just over the empty mark.....Cheers steve

Thanks mates, that's pretty clear. I will change that style. Actually, every week I fill up both of tanks but quite lazy to change from 1st to 2nd tank whenever it reaches the end some times .

Maybe they have a good amount of fuel around the pump even when sucking the last bit, keeps the pump cool enough not to do any damage..........Or just lucky as you said lol.......Cheers Steve

Sucking crap up off the bottom of the tank is a bit of a myth.
Where is the pick up located in every tank to get the fuel from? Not in the top.
I have seen plenty of tanks with crap in them over the years & most cars have the pick up only a few mm to 1cm off the bottom of the tank.
A lot of new cars now have a spring loaded pump/filter assembly that compresses down into the base of the tank & scavenges every last drop.
I do agree that pump damage will occur if you suck the things dry all the time, but i've never been a believer in worrying about what is in the bottom few drops in the tank.
              Just my 2 cents.

              Regards, Jay.
