Lots of clubs don't care what you drive. ie the Toyota Land Cruiser Club is full of Patrols and all sorts of 4bys.
Maybe try some of these and see where it takes you?

Joining a good club will get you some good training and I highly recommend it. We see so many people doing dangerous recoveries and messing up basic maneuvers. Be willing to spend time looking around for the right club. I'm in the Nissan club and with most clubs there is a wide mix of vehicles.

How long is a piece of string??? Start with a bridal, D shackles and a snatch strap. Then re-evaluate when you have done the training. You will get lots of advice but you have to work out what is right for you. I have had people tell me I would never need a winch but it has saved me and many others many times over, but most do not need one. It depends on where you are going to go. I also would not go out without my maxtrax.

Also make sure you have some good tyres and an air compressor.

A basic recovery kit is a must so your not relying on others. Snatch strap that's rated for your vehicles weight, rated 'D' shackle's x 2 at least. The rest you can put together that just makes life easer such as a good torch, gloves, hand sanitiser/cleaner, rag, pocket knife of some quality, tomahawk axe (already used that once to get a large branch of a track).

Also have a good up to date First Aid kit. After all you are in the bush and may a thing can and will go wrong and that's snake bite aside. Had to deal with the odd slippery little sucker and I'm not a fan of the pointy end.

Others on the forum will have plenty of other things to add that I've missed.
