  • Whistling noise?

    Hi all
My 97 has this whistle,,quite loudish from inside but very faint when trying to locate with the bonnet up.
A light touch on the throttle and it comes into play,,nothing when idling though.Seems to be more noticeable on the passengers side.I have searched to see if this problem has been brought up before but with no luck.
The dreaded whistle does not seem to have any affect on the motors performance as such but bloody annoying.
Any ideas would be much appreciated thanks.

Is it when the vehicle is in motion, or stationary???
Have you recently done any exhaust work??

      Gidday there croozza,
Yeah mate in motion and after driving,,sitting touching the throttle. Definitely under acceleration after stopping,,warm motor.
      No exhaust work of late.

All damn tight mate. I'm not sure about this one but a chap with the same vehicle had the whistle thing happening under exactly the same circumstances. He took out the Fuel return spring,,stretched it 5 mm put it back and bingo, whistle gone.
Where do I find this spring? would give it a go.
Bugger not being familiar with these motors.
            Cheers.

There is no whistling at all with a cold motor,,only after it gets up to the right temp.

I know this doesn't help, but thought you'd like it nonetheless:

Hi team, just an update on that whistling Dwarf lol, nice one kav.

Was meant ti get back earlier on this one but nah,old age and memory I guess.
Yes I did pull out that spring, the one sitting on the ball bearing, top of the fuel pump, stretched it 5mm and bunged it back,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,bugger me the whistling Dwarf shut his gap,,,,,,wrapped.
Apparently if the spring becomes weak some harmonics can kick in and ,well we get this whistle, squeal thing happening.
Anyway it worked and a lot more peaceful.
If anyone else ends up with a whistling Dwarf in the glove box,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,stretch his bloody spring eh.
Cheers all and have a great Xmas.

Good that you got it sorted out, whistles can be really irritating when your driving along. Your not alone though, mine whistles for 3 secs every time i start it from cold. have tracked it down to the rear aircon unit but isnt bad enough to warrant ripping everything out of the rear to access and fix it. lol
Would be gold if you could find a couple of photos of the exact bit you fixed, just in case anyone else should run across the same phantom whistler.
