  • winter driving/start in 2nd gear button

    1997 Prado 2.7l 3-door automatic

Last night my truck started acting funny, barely having power to start on a slight uphill (when in D), but then driving normal once rolling over 10 km/h. Same in 2, but in L it drove like normal.

Someone suggested I might have a "winter driving" button. Looking at 4wdonline.com they say there is a "start in 2nd gear" button, but I can't for the life of me find any button with a label like that EXCEPT for a red button to the left of the gear shifter that is in Japanese. I was changing it and then driving, but nothing seemed to be happening.

Is there another button or do I have to do more than just push it?

    Thanks for the help.

Post a pic of the shifter console/area.

Usually there are two buttons beside the shifter, PWR and 2nd Start. If your 2nd start button is pushed you should have a light on on your dash.

When you put your shifter in the Low (1st gear) position, the 2nd start button is overridden.

... the 2nd button right where you said.

I missed it because the button didn't/doesn't change the condition, even though it lights "2nd" on the dash every other push.

I've been having electrical problems so hopefully it's just that.

Just as a matter of interest, can you press the PWR button and tell us what happens
