Importing used

Hi, I am contemplating importing my 96 Turbo Diesel Auto TZ to Queensland as part of the great kiwi exodus to the sunshine.. (I know not much sunshine this week)

It has about 100kms on the clock, value here in Au$ is about 18K I understand I could land it for about AU$ 20k

If sold shortly after import would I have lost money...

Is this a sort after model ( it is in NZ as it is hard to find ex Japan...)

Is insurance an issue.. (we are max no claims bonus)

Is there any compliance questions I should be asking...

The Diesel Auto Prado in Australia wasn't sold until October 2000.

You may have issues with people being put off by the fact that this version (TZ) was never released here. Also, there may be subtle differences in the Engine or the Auto box that also was never available here resulting in posible parts issues down the track.

Have you searched the web for Aussie Prados around that price, around Oct 2000?

If the vehicle could be registered....then insurance would not be a problem I wouldn't think. The key here is if it can be registered though.

My prado is a grey import(imported 2nd hand) although I bought it from a toyota yard.
Parts are exactly the same, only part I have found to be different in 5 years was the flywheel, but that is now standard.
I had insurance with Alianz for one year until they realised it was imported and then refused. (someone really stuffed up when they insured it at first) Its now insured with NRMA although they will only insure for market value not agread.

You will also probably need to have it Pitted and ADR complianced. This can cost anything up to 5-6 k! :shock:
