  • Drivers side water leak

removed the rubber seal from the drivers door to install handsfree kit mic.

I have made sure it is on tight and tried crimping before putting back on but is seems that water is somehow getting in and running down the inside of the seal down and onto the drivers side carpets.

Absoluting soaking them in a good down poor.

How should these be installed? What am I doing wrong?
Do I need to get out the silicon??

If the seal is a tight fit and is correctly positioned there should be no water passage. Do you have a roofrack installed? Could be the roofrack seals on the roof are leaking.

Got a tracklander which sits on the rails on the side, checke to see if they are near or affecting the seal, even removed the possible offender and reinstalled to ensure clearance between the seat of the rack and the seal on the door. Still happening.
When I remove the seal you can see where water has somehow botten into the inside track and then used it as a conduit to run down the door and under the kickpanel under the dash. it then seaps into the carpet from behind the kickpanel.

Might have to bite the bullet and run a small amount of silicon down the inside of the seal.

The roof rack bolts through holes in the roof and the seals are known to let water into the cabin if they don't seal properly. With the door open and the seal off get someone to pour some water into the channel where the tracklander sits and see if the water runs through. That will show whether it is the roof rack or not. If not then I guess sealing up the inside is all you can do, I still cannot get my head around the door seal leaking and becoming a channel though if the seals is squashed with the door closed.

On the 90 series and an old tracklander there are no holes or seals in the roof for rack mounting. a U bolt and a plate are used to hold the roof rack onto the gutter or rail on the side of the roof . (like a clamp)

The plate does come near the door seal, but I have checked to see if it could effect the seal and removed it to double check and thats not it.

going to get in the car and get the missus to spray the door with the hose see if I can discover more.

Sorry didn't see the reference to the 90 series, just remember trouble shooting a friend's 120. Scrap what I said. Ooooops. What you are doing is the only way to find it. Though you haven't had the windscreen replaced recently?
