  • diesel into a petrol prado

just woundering if anyone has done a petrol(5VZ-FE) to diesel(1KZ-TE) conversion in a 95 series prado.... i was thinking of doing one to mine....
the plan of attack was to get a whole nother car so i got all the different looms, fuel componants, engine, mountings, etc.
then sell off the remaining parts.
im not to conserned about the labor as i am a diesel mechanic and i would think at most of it would be unbolt, bolt up sort of work.(correct me if im wrong)
also what is the go with legalities on doing this?

    G,day Buddy !!

Welcome to the world of conversion !! I did a D4D into a 90 series 1kzte and results is awesome !! No way in the world am I going back to a 1kzte

Now you want to put a Diesel Engine into a petrol setup pradol is a lot of work for one ! you will need the ecu computer , front and rear diffs and I think gearbox as they are all different ratios ( not 100% sure but they would have to be different ) fuel pump changed and I think the air condition hoses need to be changed as I think the air condition pump is on the left side of petrol motor where diesel is on the right side ! also a good chance you may need to change the wiring loom (90% sure you need to ) this is all off my head spur of the moment thinking there might be more !!

If you have vehicle and wanna do a swap over you will spend days not hours just plugging the wiring loom and not only that you may have to change the plugs and connectors and soldier wires together etc hope you can read wiring circuits etc

Wish you Luck for your Information can be done but a lot of work as well very time consuming !! the other thing just came to my mind is the Tacho works of a different signal so would also have to completely remove the dash !
If you going ahead with this exciting project make sure both vehicle is either manual or Automatic etc majority of the mechanical side will be bolted and tighten etc as a Diesel Mechanic you wont have a problem with that !
mate also dont forget to fill your fridge with Beer !! you will need it trust me lol

    and Good Luck !!
ps if you need any advice email or pm me ande I,ll do what I can assist you with no dramas !!

maybe a d4d would be the better option but in saying that if i get a complete 95 series with a 1kz in it i would think the majority would be just swap things over! particuly wiring and fuel compoents.
also do know where i can find more info and photos of the conversion
i just found out the last 95series diesel prados sold in japan had a 1KD-FTV engine in them!

          my 2 cents.
sell the petrol prado and buy a diesel and start the conversion from their.
i don't see it be economically justifiable using a petrol platform.
          tank swaps, everything swaps.
the only thing i see you not changing is the body panels and seats.
we looked at this idea 10 year ago on a nissan, and it just wasn't worth it.
to sell it you could never sell the finished vehicle to cover the total costs.

Not sure why you would want to keep the petrol and convert it when the cost will be much much more than buying a good 95 series diesel and selling your petrol? I will have my 2001 TD up for sale soon if you are interested in that. PM me for info.
