Hi All, I have a 1997 Toyota Prado. I went to start it and it starts but then around 3 secs later it dies, i continually did this over and over and eventually i drained my battery so had to charge it again. Has anyone ever experienced this before? I cant drive it cause it will only stay on for a couple of seconds Ive asked on other Facebook 4wd forums and everyone seems to have a different answer.. Got a mechanic coming to look at her tomorrow but thought id ask here just in case someone else had this same issue happen to them.

Have you checked all the fuse's? Have your tried starting it on the other tank? On the sub tank gauge there's a light, what happen to the light when you go to start it?96 3.4 GXL, 2" lift, Poly airs in rear, 32" BFG muddies, Lightforce 170's HID's, TJM rack, Awning, Twine on board shower, GME uhf, Dual batteries & monitor, Storage system, ARB fridge, LED rear lighting, Safari snorkel, Brown Davis bash plate, Ironman winch bar, Runva 11xp winch, Roadsafe recovery points, ARB compressor, Tyre dog monitor, AJ's sliders, Hema hn6. I don't think it would be fuel or n immobilizer as it would start once, then run out of fuel before stalling. Then it would struggle to start again.
I'd be looking at maf, iac or tps issue. Potentially unplugged after being in the engine bay and forgetting about them.
If they are unplugged it will start over and over again but shut down pretty quickly again.
I'd suggest pulling the trouble codes from the engine and seeing what it says.

If the sub tank doesn't light up when cranking, it's definitely immobilizer issue. but as RanJ has suggested MAF issue's more likely. May even be a split in the intake hose between MAF and throttle body.96 3.4 GXL, 2" lift, Poly airs in rear, 32" BFG muddies, Lightforce 170's HID's, TJM rack, Awning, Twine on board shower, GME uhf, Dual batteries & monitor, Storage system, ARB fridge, LED rear lighting, Safari snorkel, Brown Davis bash plate, Ironman winch bar, Runva 11xp winch, Roadsafe recovery points, ARB compressor, Tyre dog monitor, AJ's sliders, Hema hn6. I had a similar thing happen to us. It would start but die straight away. Turned out to be a computer module, I forget which one.Michael and Kelly
