  • Fan Hub bearing replacement

    Hi All,

Just curious if anyone has ever replaced the bearings in the fan hub assemby (The alloy standoff that the viscous fan bolts onto).
I replaced the timing belt and water pump overhaul and noticed the bearing in the fan hub were noisy, called Toyota only to find that it's one complete unit and at $1000 I thought I'd give it a miss.

I'm happy to try and get appart but just cusious if anyone has been down this track before????

    Jay

Oh, Prado is a 97 V6 auto. Cheers.

Complete unit my arse. God Toyota service are bloody dodgy.
As brissy just posted, about $100 for a whole fan clutch - the fan blades are bolt on, so you can re use them.

That's not the part he's talking about guys. He means the bit that that bolts to. It's an alloy housing which sits over top of the timing belt assembly, form part of the timing belt cover. Has a bearing/spindle in it for the fan hub to bolt to.

I have a feint feeling the housing was pressed/notched after beating install so replacing just the bearing will not be easy. I could be wrong though.

No I don't think you are MRW82. I think I may have found an after market unit, still waiting for a call back. I will keep you informed though. Thanks all.

Found one on eBay US. Postage and conversion rate you'd probably come in around $150-200.

Through amayama you're looking at about $260 plus post.

But looking at the photos in the link the bearings would have to be replaceable in it. I reckon under that flange there will be a circlip retaining the bearings. And they will be a common bearing and probably set you back $30 at the most. Worth looking at anyway.
