  • OEM Speaker Size

    Hi,

I have a 2001 Prado LWB VX, the OEMs are horrible and are in need of a replacement. Can some one help me with the sizes of the front and rear speakers?

    Thanks.

I replaced my speakers with 6 inch pioneers, they fit straight in.
now I just need to mount some boxes in the back for the 6x9's

Are these the front or rear speakers, the fronts look like 6x9 and the backs 6 1/2. Are you thinking of placing 6x9 in boxes at the rear of the truck?

the speakers in the front and rear doors are 6". The factory speakers sit in a frame/soround and then screw to the door. I put the new spaekers (4 6" pioneers) into the frames, soldered the speakers to the plug in the souround and scotch blocked the wiring ito the new head deck.
have been told by a couple of audio places there is no room in any of the doors for 6x9's, & I havent actually tried for myself. so I was going to put them in some speaker boxes in the back.

They are 6.5", rear too. I changed them to 6.5" component system.

There happens to be just right size space for crossover unit under door panel.

Its a pretty strait forward job rayray, just be care full when tacking the door trim off, I tore one of the old speakers while removing it.

You can see in KZJ90's photos how the speaker screws into a frame wich screws into the door, and the wiring plug. The best way is to solder the female plug to the new speakers so you can use the existing wiring, or you could run new speaker wire direct to the speakers.

                  Re: OEM Speaker Size

Hi guys, I have always found the sound in the Prado (120 series) a bit "muffled" as if the tone is turned down or something. By the time it is loud enough, the sound is distorted.

Has simply upgrading the speakers significantly improved your sound quality, or would you also recommend a head unit upgrade?

Having recently installed my UHF, I am thinking of another project

They sound 200% better than factory ones!

                      Hey guys
Im looking at fitting a pair of 6" Kickers in the front of my 90series with separate tweeters
The current OEM speakers are Rockford Forsgate and have tweaters built in
Has anyone got a 90series with separate tweeters?
If so, how do they sound?
                      cheers

                        Re: OEM Speaker Size

                        I have fitted....

4 X 200 watt 6" Kenwoods with splits. 6" Speakers in each door, set of splits above the rear seat belts and the others on the dash near the pillar.
2 X 700 watt 7" X 10" Earthquake speakers in the rear door. These were fitted by cutting some of the rear door and having them sit in collars also.
The head unit is a Pioneer DVD player touch screen with 7" display, has bluetooth, i-Pod connectivity and other stuff too, just haven't used it to it's full wank option features as yet.
                        In the back, I made a box to house my three Amplifiers;
                        1 X 4 channel 2000 watt Earthquake
                        1 X 4 channel 1000 watt Berserk
                        1 X 2 channel 2000 watt Mono block Earthquake
I also have a 1500 watt 12" Earthquake Sub Woofer.

I used a 2 gauge power lead all the way through. There is a 200 amp fuse in the engine bay, then, in the AMP box, there is a distribution block with three 60 AMP fuses, one for each AMP.

Might be over done some people say, but it's loud and clear. No distortion. I have all three AMPS running less then third their potential.

                          Re: OEM Speaker Size

A car audio shop should be able to create speaker installations that are both sonically and asthetically pleasing out of the large lower door panel on a Prado, as well as the far sides of the dash and lower A pillar.

Or look for one who can. :-)

                          kind regards

                            Re: OEM Speaker Size

Oh the split sound you asked about; using the stock double din tape/cd, stacker and front splits. They sounded ok but the locations are too far apart and sound moves between the two when the crossover point is in the music. The mids seem to run alot of high range which stops it a little bit the tweeter coming and going makes sound rise and fall in height.

I'm looking at 4" splits high in the front door/dash/A pillar area with an 8" lower down, all active.

                            Kind regards
